BAYERN WINS UEFA SUPER CUP AT LAST

Bayern Munich celebrate with the Super Cup
Chelsea, winners of the same competition a year earlier, are here courtesy of their triumph in the UEFA Europa League last season, in which they beat Portuguese side SL Benfica in the final in Amsterdam.

Bayern, are not the only side in the Bundesliga that will face Chelsea any time soon. FC Schalke 04 will also be testing their mettle against the Blues in the Champions League this season after the two were drawn in the same group at yesterday’s ceremony in Monaco. You can view the group stage draw for this season’s Champions League.
We are underway in the Eden Arena, as Bayern, going for a trophy the club has never won in its history, kick from right to left.

2’ It’s a decent start for the Bavarians. Jerome Boateng takes possession on the right wing and delivers an early cross for Mario Mandzukic, who header drifts wide of the far post. At the other end, Eden Hazard has Chelsea’s first effort on goal of the evening, dragging a shot off target.

GOAL! 8‘ Bayern fall behind after a clinical attack from the club from west London. Hazard picks the ball up and drives at the Reds’ defence, playing in former Bayer Leverkusen forward André Schürrle, who slides a perfect cross into the box for Fernando Torres to lash a sweet strike into the corner.

16‘ Bayern are playing with just one defensive midfielder and it looks like a tactic that Chelsea are seeking to exploit on the counter-attack. The Blues sit deep and then break at speed with Oscar feeding Torres in the inside right position. They have bodies forward, but the Spaniard’s cross is poor and the opportunity is wasted.

21' Better from Bayern as they force Chelsea's Petr Cech into a meaningful save. It's from Ribery that the danger arises, the French wing wizard finding space and drawing a great save as well as a corner from the Czech Republic custodian.

24' The Reds are not quite making the most of their opportunities at present. Arjen Robben stands over a free kick in a good position, but passes short instead of crossing into the box. Chelsea win the ball back immediately and break, with Hazard's low centre cleared from the six-yard box.
28' Unsurprisingly, Bayern are looking to Ribery for inspiration. The former Olympique de Marseille man embarks on another weaving run, before cutting insde and firing off a shot at goal. The ball nutmegs Chelsea's Gary Cahill but was always curling wide.
31' Torres hasn't quite reproduced the form for Chelsea he showed at previous club Liverpool FC, but he remains a deadly striker on his day. The 29-year-old looks to be on his game this evening, collecting a pass from the impressive Schürrle and surprising Neuer with a quick pot-shot that goes over the bar. Torres seems to be the go-to man for Chelsea in Cup compeitions; he also netted in last season's UEFA Europa League final.
36' The first piece of really incisive football from Bayern culminates in a useful chance for the German side. Robben and Kroos work the ball well in midfield and the Dutchman play a neat revere pass into the run of Müller. The German international's is diverted for a corner that comes to nothing.
42' Coming up to half-time, Chelsea look relatively comfortable with their one-goal lead. Ribery is caught in possession by Branislav Ivanovic, whom he then fouls, and the Blues defend their penalty area well once again.
HALF TIME   The referee blows the whistle for half-time right on the 45-minute mark. Bayern coach Pep Guardiola and his men will have 15 minutes to work out to get themselves back in this game as they look to win the UEFA Super Cup for the very first time.

46' The second half kicks off.

It's been an entertaining half in Prague, but not the type of scoreline that the Bundesliga champions would have envisaged. Will Pep Guardiola make any changes for the second period?

GOAL! 47' Bayern are level and you've guessed it - Franck Ribery - is the man that has them back in the game. He picks up the ball 30 yards from goal and fires a rocket of a shot past Cech and into the corner.
49' Is there a player in world football higher on confidence than Ribery at present? The winger almost puts Bayern into the lead with a speculative volley from a deep cross from the right. Cech looked a relieved man to see the ball roll across the face of goal.
56' Guardiola makes his first substitution of the evening, withdrawing Rafinha for Javi Martinez. The Spanish international midfielder immediately announces himself in the game with a crunching tackle on Hazard that starts another Bayern attack. Ribery's shot is deflected out for a throw.

63' Bayernhad been on the ascendancy in the last five minutes but they almost fall behind again due to their own negligent play. After a cross from Schürrle is too high for Torres, Dante then makes a horrendous error in possession, which Chelsea midfielder Oscar fails to take advantage of. His his shot is blocked by Neuer with Frank Lampard volleying the rebound over the bar.
69' Chelsea have looked dangerous each time hazard has picked up the ball this evening. A long pass lands at the Belgian international's feet, but he can't quite steady himself and his shot is scuffed, the ball rolling harmlessly into Neuer's arms.

71' Guardiola makes another change, introducing Mario Götze for Müller. The former Dortmund man immediately takes up a position behind main striker Mandzukic.
76' A worrying moment for Bayern as Martinez is caught on the Achilles by a reckless challenge by Torres. He has to leave the pitch for treatment, but returns momentarily, albeit moving gingerly. Ivanovic then comes close to giving the Blues the lead for a second time, heading Lampard's corner onto the bar.
82' Manuel Neuer keeps his side in the game with a fantastic point-blank save to deny David Luiz. Chelsea have not dominated possession but have had, and wasted, three excellent chances to put themselsves 2-1 up in this second half.
85' RED CARD for Chelsea's Ramires. The Brazil international sees a second yellow card and deservedly so for a wild lunge on Götze. Bayern have five minutes, and potentially 30 more in extra time, to make their numerical advantage count.
90' Chelsea have an opportunity from a free kick after Dante's foul on Torres, but David Luiz fires a shot into the wall. Can either side find a winner before normal time, and three minutes of stoppage time, are played?

END OF 90 MINUTES.
Extra time will now be played, comprising two halves of 15 minutes each. If no winner is found, a penalty shoot-out will be required to decide the winner
91' Extra time begins with Bayern kicking from left to right again. And they have a chance immediately as Gary Cahill gives away a free kick, which Robben takes, but overhits against his former club. Opportunity wasted.

GOAL! 94' Despite Bayern's good start, it's Chelsea who strike first and take the lead in extra time. Again Hazard is the thorn in their side, as he cuts inside Lahm and Boateng and cracks a low shot in at goal that Neuer can't keep out. The Reds are behind once again.
96' Pep Guardiola reacts to that goal by introducing Xherdan Shaqiri from the bench. The Swiss sensation is involved straight away, his shot being deflected wide for a corner.

HALF TIME IN EXTRA TIME.

102' Chelsea are defending predictably deep, allowing Bayern the possession and then snuffing out the danger when the Bavarians reach their penalty area. Javi Martinez is the next player to have a go at goal; his volley flattens Ivanovic and flies behind for a corner that comes to nothing.

108' Ribery attempts to get Bayern back into the game with a purposeful run into the box that ends with Götze's shot slamming into Frank Lampard's chest. Cech then shpws his class with two brilliant saves to deny Mandzukic and Martinez.

113' So close to an equaliser for Bayern, but Chelsea have Cahill to thank for a brilliant challenge to deny Shaqiri from all of three yards. From the corner, David Alaba shoots wide. The time is ticking away for the Champions League winners.
117' Bayern have a free kick outside the box, but again Cech is Chelsea's saviour, keeping out Ribery's effort with a fingertip save. Just like in the Champions League final in 2012, Cech looks to be the obstacle that Bayern cannot get past.

GOAL! 120' Bayern have an equaliser!!! It's Javi Martinez with the goal.
Xherdan Shaqiri, Ribery, Philipp Lahm, Toni Kroos and Alaba socre their penalty kicks for Bayern, whilst  Ashley Cole,  Frank Lampard, Oscar, and David Luiz socre their penalty kicks for Chelsea but Romelu Lukaku misses!!!
FINALLY, FC Bayern Munich are the 2013 UEFA Super Cup winners after a 5-4 win over Chelsea on penalties.
